As the new Head of Accounting, you will be a key part of this.

The Role
You will manage the accounting for both the UK company and US subsidiary, as well as any future entities that are established as the business grows.
The ability to communicate effectively with both finance and non-finance contacts is essential and you will work closely with the external accountants in both the UK and US to ensure efficient accounting and reporting for inter-company movements in a robust and commercially sound manner. You will also be responsible for ensuring that the business is compliant in all its operating requirements in the UK and U.S.
This is a key, highly responsible role and as with most high-growth SMEs, you will need a pragmatic approach, being prepared to balance you time and workload between the strategic and technical requirements, as well as ‘rolling up your sleeves’. You will be managing, mentoring and developing an Assistant Accountant/ Bookkeeper, ensuring that all transactions and journals are posted correctly and that the ‘day-to-day’ operations run smoothly.
Ultimately the quality and reliability of information and analysis produced by the Finance Department is the basis for the reposts for other members of the SLT and investors.
If you have an interest in tax matters you will be able to learn as the business grows with ownership of all filings, declarations, statements and confirmations that must be made for both UK and US entities.
You will have ownership of tax workflows around employee compensation, ensuring that the business structure payroll and employee equity schemes (e.g. Growth Shares, Restricted Share Awards) in the most tax efficient way for all employees.
You will also own the R&D claim workflows – which are a significant source of government support for the businesses R&D activities.
Looking to the future, you would take the lead in defining the Company’s IP strategy from a tax perspective.
All-in-all, you would be the accounting and tax ‘master’ and be the go-to specialist in these areas.

Requirements

ACA-qualified (or relevant qualification) with foundational experience at a well-established accountancy firm.

Several years experience within at a fast growing technology company

Experience in accounting for multiple jurisdictions and subsidiaries within a company Group.

Strong I.T. Skills with a knowledge of the challenges of a high-growth businesses, Proficiency with Xero, Netsuite and Microsoft Office is beneficial.

A solid understanding of the R&D claims process in the UK and ability to lead multi-million pound claims of this nature.

Some tax exposure with the full suite of employee equity plans in the UK (e.g. EMI, unapproved options, RSA, Growth Shares) and in the USA (e.g. ISO, NSO, RSU, RSA).

Understanding of tax considerations around IP (e.g. Patent Box).

A keen eye for detail and accuracy, ensuring financial data is summarised in a logical way and targeted to the relevant audience
